　　“二”and“两”

 

　　Example:

　　Wrong：我们的房间有二个书架。

　　Right：我们的房间有两个书架。

 

　　Example:

　　Wrong：下午二点大家在酒楼前边集合。

　　Right：下午两点大家在酒楼前边集合。

　　In the common language (known as putonghua),“二”and“两”,mean the same thing but have different usage.“两”is often used when followed by a measure word and representing a singe digit.“二”in (134) ,(135) should be replaced with “两”。

 

　　Example:

　　Wrong：同志，找您两块两毛两。

　　Right：同志，找您两块两毛二。

　　Renminbi is counted in units of“块”，“毛”，“分”（or“分”，“角”，“分”）。In“两块两毛两”，the last numeral“两”should carry the measure word “分”。We say “两块两毛两分”。But if “分”is absent,“二”must be used.Such expression with “分”omitted is very common in dialogue.

 

　　Example:

　　Wrong：我吃了两两来饭。

　　Right：我吃了二两来饭。

　　Before “两”which is also a measure word of weight, “二”rather than “两”is used for pronunciation reason.

 

　　Example:

　　Wrong：今天我们用了两十五块八毛二。

　　Right：今天我们用了二十五块八毛二。

　　When “2” occupies the ten’s place of a big number such as the one in the present sentence,it must be read “二”.
